Award winning SCAPE projects come to Swansea
Tom Dawson of SCAPE (Scottish Coastal Archaeology and the Problem of Erosion) will be at Digital Past 2015 to talk about two projects award best in category at the British Archaeology Awards 2014.
Scotlands Coastal Heritage At Risk, winner of the Best Community Project, is designed to engage volunteer citizen archaeologists with the thousands of archaeological sites and historic remains that are at threat from coastal erosion. Using a smart phone or tablet, volunteers can monitor, record and submit up-to-date information on sites. The accompanying ShoreUPDATE app and SCAPE website won best project in the Best Innovation Category. As well as proving an effective solution to the problem of tackling recording on such a big scale, the project has allowed individuals and communities to enjoy and benefit from taking part in archaeological and historical exploration and discovery, and to contribute to the future plans for managing this heritage at risk. A full abstract for Toms presentation will be available soon on our speaker page.
