Shedding Light on Rombalds Moor

We are pleased to announce that the CSI: Rombalds Moor project, shortlisted for the 2014 English Heritage Angel Award, will be showcased at Digital Past 2015 by speakers Sarah M Duffy and Richard Stroud.

This community led project explored the application of innovative recording and visualisation techniques to record all the known prehistoric carved rocks on Rombalds and Baildon Moor in the South Pennines.  Using Rock Art Monitoring forms, volunteers mapped the context of individual rock carvings and collected information on their condition.  Imagery was captured to enable 3D modelling using a photogrammetric approach, alongside trials of other digital recording techniques such as Reflectance Transformation Imaging and Structure from Motion.  Based on the efforts of 30 volunteers over 3 years, information on some 500 carvings was captured to assist future monitoring, management and protection.
